The Alleghany Journal - an electronic newspaper for the Alleghany Highlands... shared this:
This in from the Covington Woman's Club:
"Approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men 18 years of age or older experience domestic violence. Annually, domestic violence is responsible for over 1,500 deaths in the United States. To combat this serious and challenging public health problem, the 2025 and 2026 GFWC International Day of Service is focused on ending domestic and sexual violence.
"The GFWC International Day of Service unites all GFWC clubs, States, Regions, and International Affiliates behind a shared mission. When we come together on one day with one purpose, the impact creates a powerful ripple effect of hope, safety, and support in communities everywhere.
"The Covington Woman’s Club is assisting Safehome Systems, Inc. in distributing flyers to post in public restrooms. These posters have the local number for citizens to call if they are experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence or stalking. The 24 hour hotline crisis number is 540-965-3237. More information is also available at www.safehomesystems.org.
"In the event that your business or public restroom does not receive a poster, you may pick one up at the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism during their normal business hours." ... See MoreSee Less
